Outpatient Program Q&A

What is an outpatient program?

An outpatient program is a type of drug or alcohol rehab that doesn’t require you to stay at a hospital or an addiction treatment facility. That means you can take steps toward sober living without having to quit your job or schooling.

To accommodate unique schedules and ensure positive treatment outcomes, the team at AIM Behavioral Health offers early morning appointments, later appointments on Tuesday for employed individuals with scheduling restrictions, and 24/7 crisis support. They also offer reSET-O®, the first FDA-approved Prescription Digital Therapeutic (PDT), to increase the retention of patients in outpatient treatment.

What does an outpatient program involve?

At AIM Behavioral Health, the team tailors outpatient programs to each individual’s health history and needs. After an initial substance use assessment, a review of your medical records, and a discussion of your goals, the team might recommend:

Medication-assisted treatment:

Medication-assisted treatment uses prescription drugs, like Suboxone® or Vivitrol®, to prevent dependence on alcohol or opioids. When combined with healthy lifestyle changes, counseling, and routine checkups, medication-assisted treatment offers excellent results.

Counseling:

Counseling, or behavioral therapy, focuses on your psychological health. It teaches you skills and coping behaviors to improve your mood and outlook. Counseling also presents an opportunity to discuss previous trauma and replace your addiction with healthier alternatives, like exercise.

Drug rehab:

In some cases, outpatient therapy doesn’t provide enough structure to maintain sobriety. If you relapse or continue to struggle, the team at AIM Behavioral Health might refer you to an inpatient drug rehab facility.

Inpatient drug rehab provides round-the-clock care and intensive counseling to help you achieve lasting sobriety.

How long does an outpatient program take?

The time that an outpatient program takes depends on several factors, including what you’re addicted to and the severity of your symptoms, but generally totals around 9+ hours.

Initially, and dependent on individual needs, the team at AIM Behavioral Health may recommend weekly appointments, including a combination of individual counseling, group counseling, targeted case management, peer support, and medication management visits, which is assessed regularly for phase progression to bi-weekly appointments and monthly appointments.

The team evaluates your progress and makes adjustments as necessary with your input and involvement.

What are the benefits of an outpatient program?

An outpatient program provides various benefits, including increased flexibility for scheduling and lower costs. What’s more, individuals can use the skills they learn during counseling as soon as they leave the office.
